Location sound request received
In June of 2022, I received a call request for a location sound recordist in Fayetteville, NC. At the time, I was based in Charleston SC, but I travel a fair distance throughout the southeast doing this type of work. I love to explore new places. This time the work was going to be all outdoors in and around Fort Bragg. Some of the highlights included filming a controlled burn in action, military artillery target practice, and a home game of the local Fayetteville Woodpeckers.
To be honest, I wasn’t certain whether or not my microphones would get damaged being around the artillery noise. A short while after the shoot, my Schoeps CMIT-5 wasn’t working right anymore. They do come with a 10 yr warranty though if you register them. So I sent it in for repair and eventually received it back from Germany. The factory said it had just been an amplifier problem.
Project premieres on Nature
The finished piece first premiered on PBS in June of 2023, about a year after the filming took place. I might be biased, but I’d say it’s worth a watch.
Woodpecker Wars | Wild Hope | Nature
It’s a great opportunity to learn a little about endangered species in general, as well as how federal policy doesn’t always work out as intended. My wife and I have since purchased woodland in Western NC where we intend to build a log cabin or two. Hopefully we can use some of the things I learned from the show.
