Location sound request received

In early of 2021, I was hired as a location sound recordist for a Peter Millar project filming in Asheville, NC. They were featuring the work of Debbie Word, a distiller of fine gin made locally.

During sit down interviews, I’m often tucked away nearby, close but out of eyeline, listening for any audio problems that might occur. Occasionally, something as simple as a loose piece of jewelry can be the source of unwanted noise. It’s always a balance of making sure the audio is as clean as it can be, while keeping interruptions to a minimum. Pausing the interview for adjustments too frequently negatively affects the flow. On one of the shoot days, I remember a jack-hammer in the distance being an issue to contend with. Luckily, it did not last the entire day and we were able to work around it.

Artisans of Craft

It’s particularly rewarding being able to listen carefully to people that have successfully followed their passion in life. For this particular series, the projects I got to be a part of were quite inspiring.

Artisans of Craft

This was one of my first visits to Asheville, and it piqued my interest considerably. A second unrelated project about an hour’s drive north sealed the deal, and began the process of my wife and I transitioning to Western NC. Our goal is to one day be able to consider ourselves log home builders.

Additional Links

If you are in the area and are fond of steam and copper, a distillery tour at Debbie Word’s business is certainly worth the visit. I have no affiliation with them, just an admirer of the work they do.

Chemist Spirits

If you are fond of finely crafted cocktails, the attached bar Antidote is also well worth a stop. My wife was not disappointed.
