Location sound request received
In december of 2022, I was hired as a location sound recordist for a project in Charlotte, NC. Something to do with chili peppers was all I had been told about the content. When I found myself at a boxing gym with a ring announcer carrying a plate of hot peppers, I conceded I had completely misunderstood. It was a very different band of individuals than what I expected.
A highlight of the shoot was a one on one match between two of the world’s most renowned chili eaters. I really had no idea this type of thing existed. Once back home, I experimented a bit based on what I learned. On a scale of 1 to 10 for hot tolerance though, I’m probably still a 2.
Supplemental mixer
I wasn’t the primary sound recordist for this project. Working under Brandon Sequeira, I served as overflow to capture additional talent and ambient. I was happy to hear the ding of the boxing round bell struck in one of the finished episodes. I must have recorded it 5 times or more trying to get it perfect. It can be hit or miss working with other people on short notice, but if you put your ego aside you can learn a lot by watching how others solve problems. Brandon was definitely a great individual to work with, and I still use an indoor/outdoor lavaliere setup that he showed me.
