Production sound mixer request received
In April of 2023, I received a call request for a production sound mixer in downtown Charlotte, NC. One of the more challenging parts of filming anything in a major city is dealing with traffic and Charlotte is no exception. Half the battle is getting your equipment where it needs to be when it needs to be there. This particular shoot was filmed in the Punch Room of the Ritz Carlton.
Two person interviews are a common setup, but this had the added element of being a 3 camera live broadcast. One of the differences that comes up for these types of shoots is coordinating with the network’s production center. The audio to the three cameras needs to be consistent so the video feed can be seamlessly switched in real time. One of the products that has worked for me in this situation is a passive line-level splitter.

It can be a better option than using multiple mixer outputs with slightly different circuitry and nominal output levels. Having tried a variety of setups on other live productions, it has proven to be reliable and trouble-free.
